Our Garden

Now that I am a stay at home mom, I have time to do things that I have always wanted to but never had the time.  One of those things was to start a garden.  So my husband and I did some research on growing plants in our area.  We decided to build our own garden bed.  We just started with one.  It is our first year and we didn't want to get ahead of ourselves.

We had started out with a few plants that we had started inside our home.

From left to right, we have broccoli, sweet peppers, cherry tomatoes and Roma tomatoes.

We went ahead and planted green beans and onions straight into the garden bed.  I'm hoping to transplant the others we started inside to the bed outside next weekend.

The green beans.

The onions are harder to see, but here is a closer look at one popping up.

It's hard to see but it's there.  I promise.  Hopefully i'll get to post more updated pictures of the garden next week.  It's been cold here the past few days so i'm not sure if I will get to plant more this weekend.

Back to Blogging

We completely dropped the ball on blogging at the end of my pregnancy and continued to stay away until our son turned 3 months old.  Anyone that has kids should know how busy things can get and the importance of giving your newborn 100% of your attention.  Now that he is 3 months old, we feel that it is time to get back to blogging.
To catch you up, our son was born the night of November 14th at 9:11 pm.  He weighed in at 9lbs 11oz.  We named him August Mikel.  A somewhat unique name as we are constantly reminded.  We did not choose this name lightly.  As soon as we found out that our baby was a boy, I fell in love with the name Augie.  My husband liked it too.  BONUS!  The only thing that I loved more than the name Augie was my father, who was well know as Gus.  He passed away 3 years ago.  I wanted to honor him by passing on a part of his legacy to my youngest son who never got to meet him.  So August just seemed to be the perfect fit for us.  We know that the name isn't for everyone but it is perfect for us.  Mikel is my husband's middle name so we chose to pass it on as our son's middle name.  Mikel is pronounced Michael.
